Geomicrobiology: microbial solutions
Geomicrobiology is rapidly advancing from fundamental science to applied innovation, offering microbial solutions to some of society’s most pressing challenges. This session, Geomicrobiology: Microbial solutions to societal challenges, will showcase cutting-edge research at the intersection of microbes, minerals, and the environment, highlighting how microbial processes regulate key element cycles, enable low-impact mineral recovery, and mitigate environmental contaminants. Bringing together studies on microbial transformations of metals, carbon sequestration, and bio-based resource solutions, the session emphasizes geomicrobiology’s role in addressing global issues such as sustainable energy, critical mineral supply, environmental remediation, and climate resilience.
