After the sad and unexpected passing of Peer Bork last month, we are now pleased to announce that Jeroen Raes (KU Leuven, Belgium) will deliver the Opening Keynote for ISME20. Jeroen is a former member of the Bork lab and his address will double as a tribute for Peer.

In the week prior to ISME20, the GSC2026: Genomic Standards Consortium meeting will take place in Rotorua, Aotearoa New Zealand from 12-14 August. Make the most of your trip to New Zealand by attending both ISME20 and GSC26!

We are deeply sorry to learn of the recent passing of Peer Bork, who has made a massive contribution to the field of microbial ecology over the past several decades. Peer was to present the Opening Keynote lecture at ISME20, in recognition of his many contributions.
