After the sad and unexpected passing of Peer Bork last month, we are now pleased to announce that Jeroen Raes (KU Leuven, Belgium) will deliver the Opening Keynote for ISME20. Jeroen is a highly productive human microbiome researcher who has made countless contributions to the field of microbial ecology. He is also a former member of the Bork lab and his address will double as a tribute for Peer, who will be deeply missed by the microbial ecology community.

The Genomic Standards Consortium (GSC) maintains the MIxS Standards (Minimum Information about [x] Sequence) that define the minimum metadata held alongside genomic data in global repositories. To meet the contemporary needs of the genomics research community, the GSC wants input from individuals and groups with expertise in Indigenous metadata, Indigenous data governance, legislative and permitting contexts, as well as those who are motivated to host their own national or sub-national genomic data repositories. In Memoriam
We are deeply sorry to learn of the recent passing of Peer Bork, who has made a massive contribution to the field of microbial ecology over the past several decades. Peer was to present the Opening Keynote lecture at ISME20, in recognition of his many contributions. The ISME20 organisers will make a further announcement in due course.
