Indigenous knowledge: solutions for global environmental challenges

Indigenous knowledge: solutions for global environmental challenges

The world’s Indigenous people with their lived experience and millennia of knowledge are the guardians of information that can help solve some of our most pressing environmental issues. Indigenous knowledge that is generated empirically and drawn from local context, can complement and enhance research. This includes providing a deeper understanding of the natural world, such as, plant genetic resources that could provide source for human and non-human disease management. In this session we hear from leading Indigenous researchers that are exploring with their communities, the vital role that Indigenous knowledge has in microbial ecology that could lead to greater environmental and wellbeing outcomes. This session highlights traditional ecological insights and collaborative research approaches.
