Microbial marvels: advancing microbial literacy for a healthier world
Though near invisible, microbes are among the most powerful forces influencing human health, environmental stability, food systems, and planetary sustainability. Despite their critical roles, microbial life remains largely overlooked in public discourse and education. This session aims to transform that perception by emphasising the importance of microbial literacy and awareness of microbes in addressing global challenges. The session will showcase innovative and interdisciplinary strategies to bridge the gap between microbial science and society. These include educational tools, public outreach models, and community-based programs that incorporate microbial knowledge into classrooms, health initiatives, and sustainability efforts. By exploring how microbial literacy can be integrated into everyday thinking, the session encourages scientists, educators, and communicators to position microbes as essential allies in creating a more informed and sustainable future. Participants will gain practical insights into how microbial awareness can empower communities and contribute to global well-being.
