Who we are

The ISME Early Career Scientist Committee represents early career scientists of our microbial ecology community.

What we do

ISME ECSC is dedicated to empowering early career scientists through inclusive, community-driven initiatives. We organize diverse programs and events that provide support, visibility, and professional development opportunities for our peers.

Our Values

We are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Using a bottom-up approach, we prioritize listening to early career scientists – amplifying their voices and responding to their needs. Our goal is to build an open, supportive platform where every early career scientist can thrive, contribute, and feel truly represented.

The nomination process of a new member:

  • The ECSC shall comprise no more than 8 members in total, ensuring continental and regional representation, with the goal of having at least one representative from each continent
  • A term of service for all members is four years
  • Every two years, new members are selected to allow for knowledge and skills sharing as well as support for the incoming committee
  • New members are invited through an open call for applications
  • The next open call will be in 2026.
