The ISME Board consists of two parts: the Executive Board, which is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Society, and the International Board, which oversees ISME’s activities to ensure they align with the Society’s objectives and long-term strategy.

Responsibilities of International Board members include:

• Participating in General Board meetings
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and governance of the Society
  • Providing updates from committee activities
  • Reviewing and approving the annual financial accounts
  • 3-4 meeting per year, in addition to ad hoc meetings to discuss new strategic initiatives 
• Supporting and participating in ISME activities, committees and initiatives within the global microbial ecology community. This may include reviewing applications for funding, awards, and nominations.

After the nomination period closes, the ISME Nomination Committee will review all applications and select two candidates per open position. In total, six candidates will proceed to an online election by the ISME membership, during which three new International Board members will be elected.

The vacancies arise as the terms of three International Board members come to an end after six years of dedicated service. The Executive Board would like to sincerely thank Debbie Lindell, Jillian Petersen, and Fengping Wang for their valuable contributions, commitment, and service to ISME throughout their terms on the International Board.
